Please forgive the sloppy job of decorating. This is my first attempt at a scratch made cake.

Now if you stand back about 5 feet and squint your eyes… The cake looks perfect! ROFLMFAO
OK, I know you guys want the recipe so here it is..
DRY
2 cups flour
1 3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1 1/4 baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon double acting baking powder
WET
1 1/4 milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup shortening
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Directions
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Add wet ingredients and on low speed mix until all ingredients are wet scraping down sides of bowl several times.
Mix on high speed for about 7 minutes scraping down bowl sides a couple of times.
Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch cake pans (I used 3 8 1/2 pans). Place in oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean. It is OK if the top cracks a little bit. Take cakes out of the oven and let cool completely. The cake may pull away from the sides of the pan during cooking and that is OK.
Cut off the rounded tops so layers are flat. Ice with your favorite frosting and enjoy!
I know it should have been a green cake for St. Patrick’s Day. I’ll just pretend it’s St. Josephs day instead!
